Be Afraid.

Self Portrait current

Calling all music. Where are you?

Radiohead, Empathy Test, Manes, Omnium Gatherum, Mt. Wolf, Eivor, Serj Tankien, Emmanu El, CLANN, Solomon Grey, Olafur Arnalds, Fever Ray, KAUAN, these are some names who have been silent too long. Give me something new and dark, so beautiful it makes me suffer. I beg you.

The Devil is indeed afraid.

Not of something as paltry as my life, hidden villains in the lands where I am traditionally the villain are not something to fear but correct. As I will. Witches and errant women will be found, unknown entities made known and dispatched appropriately, never doubt it.

What frightens Satan? The present and future state of music. It terrifies me, nothing brilliant has been born, no pure and perfect creation of the kind I am used to.

A brave attempt by Sigur Ros is to be commended but not listened to, alas, unless you like your music watered down. I say it again, if Jonsi was the lifeblood in that body, Orri was the beating heart, no other drummer can replace him. A sad day for music when such a thing can happen. When a man can be punished for his own genes. Woked right over. In Hell we wear mourning for this band.

Radiohead, please don’t be finished. You certainly aren’t in Hell, where you live forever. Give us something new. Thom, what has age brought you? I am keen to know. Where are your words, in those exquisite, eternal melodies? Phil, make them, you can do it. But first play the riffs from “Weird Fishes”. If I was there I could convince you all, but fiction cages me. The ocean divides you from my pathetic scribe, your place at the top, hers at the bottom, never the twain shall meet. Help the world, it needs you.

Bjork, give us more like “Pagan Poetry”, you know how it drove me crazy, give us “Cosmogeny”, “Jóga”,  “Stonemilker”, even a lie like “You’ll Be Given Love”, when you sing it I can almost believe it. Make me weep with wonder, surround me with your own particular melody, sensual, playful, lilting. Wipe your face clean, wear something simple, leave the strange and return to the painfully real. You can bewitch a god with those songs.

Kishi Bashi, Thank You for “In Fantasia”. Like my other favourites of yours, a Masterpiece like this buys you all the time you need to make another. Lowly peon, don’t listen to this song until I have told you how. Critical, trust me. It’s too much for a student such as yourself.

At the moment I’m listening to witches burn, with Radiohead. No one will ever do it as well, it will stay at the top for eternity. Like so much of their work.

As a god who delights in saying inflammatory and provocative things, all of which you need to hear, I fully expect to be the target of a witch hunt, at some point. You know I’m not afraid of fire, it’s my medium. Bring it on.

What can I say to help?

A few random words, perhaps, like jews, blacks, policescum, I love breasts, just not big ones, sex is best, women look good in short skirts, men are homophobes- who look good when they have muscles, conspiracy, I believe them all and so should you, races actually are different, allah is just another name for jehovah, which is just another name for the antichrist, no wait, that’s me, or so you say.

No Music recommendation this time. I have to start rationing them, apparently.
